HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Winless through its first seven road matches this season, the Marshall men's soccer team (2-7-5, 0-2-2 C-USA) will look to break that trend as it pays a visit to the ODU Soccer Complex for a Conference USA contest with Old Dominion on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
In-game Twitter updates @HerdMSoccer, results and a recap from the night's action will be available at HerdZone.com.
HAVE YOU HERD?
In a match between two of the top-three active winningest coaches in Division I men's soccer, Bob Gray's Marshall squad recorded a 1-1 draw with Mark Berson's South Carolina side in a battle of Conference USA competitors on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
The double-overtime draw was the second for Marshall in its last three contests. The Herd has a 0-1-4 record this season in contests that go to overtime.
Having come in the 34th minute, the Marshall goal broke a scoreless streak that had ended at 418:21 as the last Herd goal came against New Mexico (Sept. 30). The score also gave Marshall its first lead since Sept. 17 against VMI.
THE GRAY AREA
Marshall coach Bob Gray (Postgame -- Oct. 19)
"We found some things about ourselves tonight as we saw good things from lineup adjustments with the addition of new guys who started. There is no quit in us so we will just have to keep battling because the schedule doesn't get any easier."
"We have a tough stretch here as we have to go on the road to Old Dominion and then we come back home to play Tulsa and Kentucky. It is just the way this league is, but we found out that we belong here today with the way our guys fought. We just need to find someone to score a big goal for us and help us win a big game."
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
Old Dominion (7-3-1, 4-1-0 C-USA) is currently playing its best soccer of the season as the Monarchs have won three in a row, all against C-USA opponents, and four out of their last five matches. Most recently, ODU defeated FIU on the road 1-0.
The Monarchs are 3-3 at home this season, including a 3-2 overtime victory over then-No. 10 UAB (Oct. 12). Tim Hopkinson leads the way for the ODU offense as he has tallied nine goals, five game-winners, and two assists for a total of 20 points through 11 matches.
The matchup will be the second in the history of the two programs, with ODU leading the series 1-0 - on a 2-1 victory in 1983 in Norfolk, Va.
