Alex Black Sets New Lifetime Best

ATHENS, Ohio - Marshall's sophomore swimmer Alex Black (Palm Bay, Fla.) set a new lifetime best time in the Thundering Herd's loss to the Bobcats on Friday. The swimming and diving team's loss came by a total score of 197-81 at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
"We ran into a strong team tonight," Marshall coach Bill Tramel said. "The fact that we have been decimated by sickness and injury doesn't help."
Black, who set a new lifetime best less than a week ago, clocked a new career best in the 200 breaststroke. Her time of 2:30.84 gave her a second-place finish in the event.
"I am overjoyed with our performance tonight," Tramel said. "Alex Black dropped her lifetime best in the 200 breast again. I have a feeling this is going to continue to happen all season long."
Freshman Teel Hartmann (Louisville, Ky.) broke into Marshall's all-time top 10 in the 1,000 free. Her time of 10:34.28 pushed her into ninth place in the record books. Junior Katie Kramer (Naples, Fla.) set new season bests in the two individual events she entered. In the 50 freestyle, she swam a 26.49 and clocked a 56.93 in the 100 freestyle.
"Teel's 1,000 enters our all-time top 10 list, and Katie Kramer had season bests every time she entered the water," Tramel said. "Being shorthanded tonight, our focus was performing season best times."
Kramer was on the 200 medley relay, along with senior Vera Niemeyer (Wuerselen, Germany), Black and freshman Chloe Parsemain (Fos sur Mer, France). The team finished third with a time of 1:52.40.
Parsemain, Kramer, Black and freshman Bree Mury (Round Rock, Texas) finished second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.50.
Senior Sarah Kay (Cape Town, South Africa) posted the Herd's sole victory of the day. With a time of 2:05.27, she took first place in the 200 butterfly.
"Sarah Kay was business as usual in the 200 fly," Tramel added. "Everyone performed well after probably our hardest week of training, thus far. Hopefully we can get some people healthy for next week at Radford, but I'm very happy about tonight."
The Herd will travel to Radford, Va., Nov. 15-16 to compete in its first tri-meet of the season. Marshall will face Old Dominion and Radford over a span of two days, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
