HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Swimming and Diving Head Coach Phoebe Campbell announced the addition of Nicole McConnell as Swimming and Diving Associate Head Coach of the program on Wednesday.
"My goal as I sought to fill this position was to find a coach who is knowledgeable, responsible, and driven; willing to put in the work necessary to ensure the team's success," Campbell said about adding McConnell to the staff. "McConnell has shown time and time again that she can do all of that and more. McConnell and I have had many opportunities to collaborate over the years, and we have always brought out each other's strengths. I am so pleased to have McConnell at Marshall, where we can work together to bring out the team's strengths. Her knowledge, experience, and character will help us all as we strive for greatness."
McConnell most recently served as an assistant coach at Penn State, where she coached four NCAA qualifiers, an All‑American Second-Team honoree, and a Big Ten runner‑up while helping student-athletes break multiple program and national records.
"I'm incredibly grateful to Coach Campbell and Marshall University for the opportunity to join the Herd," McConnell said. "From the beginning, it was clear how much pride and passion surround this program. I'm excited to work alongside Coach Campbell and our staff as we invest in our student-athletes and create an environment where they can grow, compete, and succeed both in and out of the pool."
Prior to her time in the Big Ten, she spent four seasons with Texas A&M's women's program, contributing to a third-place SEC and 14th-place NCAA team finishes during the 2023-24 season, guiding nine qualifiers to the 2024 Olympic Trials and coaching six First-Team All-Americans and Second-Team All-Americans.
Her coaching background also includes successful roles at Aggie Swim Club, the University of Evansville as a Graduate Assistant (2018-20), and Longview Swim Club (2014-18), where she led athlete development across age groups and competitive levels.
A native of Texas, McConnell holds a Master of Science in Leadership from the University of Evansville and a Bachelor of Science from LeTourneau University. She is USA Swimming Coach Certified and brings strengths in athlete development, recruiting, technical training design, and team culture building.
