The Big Green is proud to announce that we are once again 3,000 strong!

For the third straight year the Big Green Scholarship Foundation has surpassed the 3,000-membership mark. The late January promotion -- allowing current members to refer new members and receive two Priority Points per referral -- was a great success and saw an increase of over 50 donors in less than a week.

One member in particular, Mike Skeens, took this challenge and ran with it. Mike was at the top the leaderboard for referrals all week long, and for his efforts he has been named this week's donor of the week.

The 1983 MU graduate (BA, Criminal Justice) actually played two years of college football at West Virginia State before finishing his studies at Marshall. The standout middle linebacker joined another team when he later became a member of the Huntington Police Department.

Utilizing his skills in the classroom and experience from the field, Mike started Interstate Traffic Control, which he later sold in 1999.

Currently, Mike is the President and CEO of Huntington Testing and Technology, and spends his time with his wife Karen splitting between their home in Ceredo and Palm Coast, Fla.

Mike and Karen have two children, Jacob and Jennifer, and are also very proud grandparents to five grandchildren.

Favorite MU Athlete: Chad Pennington -- not because of the football player Chad was, but more because of the amazing individual he is as a person. Chad has and will continue to do so much for our community.

Favorite MU Moment: Winning the Division I-AA football national championship in 1992 over Youngstown State.

Why do you give to the Big Green?

As a former college athlete myself, I understand the importance of giving other student-athletes the same opportunities I had.
