IRVING, Texas-Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato was named Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week Monday following the Herd’s 49-24 win over Middle Tennessee Saturday afternoon. He shared the award with UAB quarterback Cody Clements.
Cato completed 17-of-33 passes for 337 yards and three touchdown passes, to go with a four-yard touchdown run to cap the Herd's first possession of the third quarter, in a 49-24 win over Middle Tennessee. The TD passes extended his consecutive games with a TD pass streak to 38, tying him with Russell Wilson (NC State-Wisconsin) for the FBS record, a mark he can break in his hometown Saturday as Marshall visits FIU. Cato has won one Offensive Player of the Week honor in each of the last three seasons. The Miami native earned C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com on Sunday.
Marshall (6-0 overall, 2-0 C-USA), ranked #24 in the Coaches poll and #25 in the Associated Press poll, will face the FIU Panthers (3-4 overall, 2-1 C-USA) at 6 p.m. Saturday in FIU Stadium in a game that will be televised on the American Sports Network. The Herd ranks in the top 25 in the FBS in 77 statistical categories, including leading the way in yards per play (7.65), 20+ yard scrimmage plays (49), 30+ yard scrimmage plays (27), winning percentage (tied, 1.000) and blocked punts (tied, 2).
