Marshall placed second in the fourth annual West Virginia State Games on Oct. 10-11 in Huntington. Among the strong performers for the Herd, freshman Nele Albers (Ludinghausen, Germany), performed well in her opening meet, winning the 200 yard freestyle and breaststroke. Marshall also continued its success at distance races under head coach Bill Tramel, as senior Kaley Gregory (Hurricane, W.Va.) placed second in the 1650 freestyle.

To cap off the West Virginia State Games, the team of Albers, Emma Lockyer (Thunder Bay, Ontario), Kacey Preun (St. Andrews, Manitoba) and Madi Pulfer (Ottawa, Ontario) won the 800 yard freestyle relay, defeating West Virginia by six seconds to set a new Fitch Natatorium record in the event.

TRAMEL TALK
Head Coach Bill Tramel on UNC Asheville and Gardner Webb:
"We are looking forward to standing up against two solid Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association teams while trying to progress on a very fast start at the West Virginia State Games a couple weeks ago.

"Getting out on the road is fun too. Trips are the things student-athletes remember about their college experience. Our main focus will be focusing on improving our results from the West Virginia State Games two weeks ago. We always want to be moving forward, and this is our next opportunity to do so."
