Tennis Turns in Strong Play on Day 2

BLACKSBURG, Va.- Marshall tennis concluded day 2 at the Hokie Fall Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., in successful fashion, winning four of six matches of the day. The Herd will conclude its flight play on Sunday.
"It was a very positive day," head coach John Mercer said. "We did very well executing the things we have been working on. We won four of six matches today, and it was just a very good day; we played very well. We look forward to continuing that strong play tomorrow."
Senior Kai Broomfield (Toronto, Canada) trumped her UMBC competitor, Dolashvili, 6-1, 6-1 and will next face JMU's Huie in the Flight A Consolation Bracket.
Sophomore Anne Gulsrud (Stavenger, Norway) defeated Mengel of Penn State in a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 battle in her Flight C Consolation. She will next face VCU's DeLasa on Sunday for
Fellow sophomore Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) fell to Penn State's Devan McCluskey 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 during her trek through Flight B play. Morales then tackled a JMU competitor, winning at scores of 6-3, 6-2. She will next face Penn State's Blik for the fifth place spot in Flight B
On the pairs front, Broomfield and Morales faced border-rival Morehead State in the consolation flight, taking an easy 8-3 win over the Eagles' Andrea LeBlanc/Hayley Wild. The duo will have to face another Morehead State pairing for the ninth place final on Sunday.
