HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall tennis returns to the Commonwealth of Virginia after a stellar performance in last weekend's Hokie Fall Invitational. This weekend, the Herd will head to Charlottesville for the UVa Invitational beginning Friday, Oct. 10.

Marshall could face competition from any of the following schools: Virginia, Arkansas, Northwestern, South Carolina, Maryland, or Old Dominion.

The tournament will consist of two singles draws of 16 competitors, and either one doubles draw of 16 or two doubles draws of eight.

HAVE YOU HERD?

Sophomore Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) led the way for MU at the Hokie Invite, only losing once in her flight play and finishing fifth.

Marshall will take four players to Charlottesville. Freshmen Maddie Silver (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) will play in their second collegiate tournaments, while sophomores Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) and Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) round out the group.

Silver is coming off an impressive showing in her first outing with back-to-back singles victories at the Tribe Invitational on Sept. 19-21.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

The Virginia Cavaliers present a huge threat to the Herd, with two competitors ranked nationally in the Preseason Top 10 (singles), and four total in the top 125. Cavalier freshman Cassie Mercer is the daughter of Marshall Head Coach John Mercer.

Arkansas, Northwestern, and South Carolina each have one ranked player on their squads.
