IRVING, Texas - Marshall sophomore Danica Ross (Binghamton, N.Y.) has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for her performance in the Herd's win against Ohio last Friday, the league office announced Tuesday.

Ross, swimming in her first meet since February 2013 due to a previous injury, led the way for the Herd swimmers with victories in the 50-and 100-yard freestyles. Ross swam a time of 23.80 in the 50 freestyle, which is the second fastest time for the event in Conference USA this season. In the 100, Ross swam a 52.68, which is seventh fastest in the league this year. Ross also was part of the 200 yard freestyle relay team that placed first with a time of 1:36.83.

The Herd defeated the Bobcats for the first time in school history, by a score of 160-138.

Herd coach Bill Tramel said he was very pleased with the nomination for Ross and that she should continue to develop more as the season progresses.

"We all are so happy for Danica," Tramel said. "I know she had questions going into last weekend, since she hasn't raced in a year and a half. This certainly should validate everything she has done on the road back. There is much more ahead and we know her primary coach, Ian Walsh, will provide the perfect training."
