ITHACA, N.Y. - Although senior Leah Scott (Detroit) posted her first career double-double, Marshall women's basketball (3-1) recorded its first loss of the season, 58-49, at Cornell (3-2) on Wednesday at Newman Arena.

For the third consecutive game, Scott put up 20 or more points with 21 against the Big Red, while leading the team in scoring for the fourth straight time. She added 10 rebounds, matching her career high, to complete her double-double.

Early in the first half, Cornell went on a 6-0 run from 16:26 to 14:08 to claim a 10-6 lead over the Herd. Marshall kept things within three points for the next five minutes, until the Big Red took a 9-2 run to claim the half's largest lead of six, up 19-13 at 6:20. The Herd responded with a 9-0 run of its own over the next three minutes to go up, 22-19 with 3:50 remaining until the break. Cornell put up six straight points to take back the lead at 1:17, up 25-22. Scott cut it to 25-24 with a layup, yet Marshall found itself in its first halftime deficit of the season.

The closest Marshall came to taking back the lead was at the 15:42 mark in the second half, when junior Norrisha Victrum (Columbia, S.C.) drained a three to cut the deficit to 31-30. With 10:08 to go, the Big Red went on an 11-4 run to gain its largest lead of 11 at 6:39, up 51-40. The teams played fairly evenly during the last six minutes, but the Herd could not overcome its situation and fell, 58-49.

The Big Red had a 41-30 edge on the boards, and put up 13 second chance points off 28 offensive rebounds. Cornell also found offensive efficiency from post players Nicholle Aston and Nia Marshall, who went 8-of-8 (16) and 8-of-16 (18), respectively. Christine Kline also contributed a double-figure scoring effort with 10 points.

For the Herd, Scott led the way with her 21 points and 10 rebounds, and AJ Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) and Victrum followed with six points apiece.
