HAVE YOU HERD?
With help from four double-figure scoring efforts, including a career-high 21 from senior AJ Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.), Marshall took down previously unbeaten Coastal Carolina, 77-65, on Nov. 29 at The HTC Center. As a team, the Herd shot 50 percent from the field at 27-of-54, its best mark of the season. Marshall also was 47 percent clip from long range (8-of-17). Despite being outrebounded, 43-40, the Herd handily outscored the Chants in the paint 38-18, and produced 17 points off 12 turnovers.

START ME UP
At 4-1, the Herd is off to its best start since 2006-07 (5-1).

A HERD WIN WOULDââ'¬Â¦

  • Extend Marshall's best start since 2006-07 (5-1)
  • Give the Herd its second win streak of the season
  • Be Marshall's first against the Colonels since Nov. 27, 1995 (77-61, in Huntington)
  • Be the Herd's first in Richmond since Feb. 2, 1993 (84-80)
  • Be Marshall's first win against a current Ohio Valley Conference member since Dec. 28, 2011 (Tennessee Tech, 73-68)

GREAT SCOTT!
The Herd has found a leader in senior Leah Scott (Detroit), who tops Conference USA with a .621 field goal percentage (36-of-58) and 37.0 minutes played per game. Her field goal percentage is ranked No. 19 in the nation, and she leads the Herd with 19.0 points and 2.8 assists per outing. She was this season's first Conference USA Player of the Week (Nov. 17) and was named MVP of the URI Tip-Off (Nov. 15).

ON THE ROAD, AGAIN
Of the first nine contests of the 2014-15 campaign, Marshall will play seven away from Huntington. The Herd's current three-game road trip is the longest since a stretch of six games from Nov. 23 to Dec. 8, 2012. During that stint, Marshall went 3-3 over two neutral-site tournaments, the annual Capital Classic against West Virginia, and one true road contest at Southern Illinois. Later this season, the Herd will be away for a second stretch of three games, at Rice (Feb. 5, 2015), North Texas (Feb. 7) and Western Kentucky (Feb. 14).

Michaela Hunter and Shameekia Murray top the team with 15.0 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.

The Colonels lead the series with the Herd, 17-8, winning the last five consecutive meetings. Marshall's last win against EKU was Nov. 27, 1995 (77-61, in Huntington). Last season, the Herd fell to the Colonels, 64-55.
