HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University swimming and diving completed the West Virginia State Games in Morgantown, W.Va. with its fifth-straight second place finish in the meet's five year history.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
During the final day of competition, the Thundering Herd divers tallied 51 points in 1 Meter Diving. All members of the junior class, Kelly Toner led the way for the Herd divers. On the swimming side, Emma Lockyer (400 IM), Chloe Parsemain (100 Fly) and Savannah Ruedt (1650 Free) all finished runner-up in their respective events.
TRAMEL TALK
Coach Bill Tramel on the meet:
"We were a little better today, and more focused. However, clearly nowhere near the place we want to be. Beginning the season, on paper, we are a stronger team. However, we are lacking team leadership. We are lacking a lot of other things too. But leadership is the most prominent. That starts from the top, and I will take most of the responsibility for that."
"After our historic season last year, I came into this season too optimistic and thought we were further along in building our champion. I try to build a system of discipline. Where you simply manage the system, not the people, because the people have the discipline to do the things needed for success. This team isn't there. They aren't where I thought they were. I still need to manage our people because they still need guidance. They don't understand or they are still trying to figure it out. The system isn't ready to work on its own."
