LYNCHBURG, Va. - Marshall tennis concluded day three of the ITA Atlantic Regional Saturday with junior Derya Turhan and freshman Jackie Carr competing for the Herd.
"Great matches for everyone," said Herd Coach John Mercer. "We are making good progress in getting our team prepared for the upcoming spring season."
Once again Marshall was led by the Bad Salzuflen, Germany, native, who began the day with a victory in the round of 32 in the main draw singles. Turhan was paired against Williford of Virginia Tech. Turhan controlled the tempo of the match throughout, as she won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
With the victory earlier in the day, Turhan advanced to the round of 16. The junior was matched against Morton of Virginia. The roles were reversed for Turhan in the round, as she fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Also on the court for Marshall was Carr as she took place in the main draw singles consolation bracket. Carr faced off against Blakely of Pittsburgh University. After dropping the first set, Carr battled in the second to take the set and force a tie-breaking set. Carr kept it close in the final set, but Blakely claimed the win with a 10-8 in the set.
