Marshall earned a big upset win against Cincinnati and took care of business against VMI in the team's first home meet last Friday. The Herd picked up individual wins in the 400 IM for freshman Caroline Wanner (pool record) and the 50 IM for sophomore Gloriya Mavrova.
Marshall was able to secure the meet win in the last event, the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Lauren Cowher, Maggie Stovall, Gloriya Mavrova and Chloe Parsemain helped secure the win for coach Bill Tramel's team.
WOLONS NAMED C-USA DIVER OF THE WEEK
Marshall University diving junior Megan Wolons (Williamsburg, Va.) was named the Conference USA Diver of the Week on Tuesday.
Wolons was the key diver for Marshall in the Herd's victories against Cincinnati and VMI on Friday, and receives the award for the first time.
The junior won the 3-meter event with a score of 260.70. She then finished runner-up in the 1-meter event, posting a score of 241.35.
TRAMEL TALK
Coach Bill Tramel on the meet:
"The travel meets are always more fun. I think the team looks forward to them and we can have some great performances."
On continuing to focus after big win:
"Obviously, we are overjoyed with our last meet against Cincinnati and VMI. However, how many times have you seen a team have a great, somewhat unexpected win, only to lose the next game? We must keep our focus to avoid a letdown. We have had a really good week of practice, both on the boards and the swimming side. We just want to keep improving, moving ahead."
