Herd Swimming and Diving Opens Season Thursday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall swimming and diving team opens its regular season Thursday and Friday in the fifth annual West Virginia State Games, hosted by West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va.
Thursday's session will begin at 7:30 p.m., while Friday's will start at 11 a.m. Results and a recap for each will be available following each day on Herdzone.com.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall coach Bill Tramel enters his fourth season with the program riding the tide from a highly successful 2014-15 in the pool and the classroom. Marshall broke numerous personal, school and pool records during the regular season and saved its best for the Conference USA Championships. The Herd set 13 school records at the Championships and finished fourth.
Additionally, two Marshall student-athletes, junior Megan Wolons (platform diving) and sophomore Nele Albers (400 IM) earned podium places at the championships.
In the classroom, Marshall received the Conference USA Sport Academic Award for the highest team GPA among all C-USA swimming and diving programs (3.492). The Herd's GPA ranked No. 5 in the nation for the Fall 2014 semester among NCAA Division I programs.
MEET INFORMATION
The West Virginia State Games is in its fifth consecutive year and is hosted each year by Marshall or West Virginia University, the state's two NCAA Division I schools. The meet also features Alderson-Broaddus, Davis & Elkins, Wheeling Jesuit, Fairmont State, WVU Tech and West Virginia Wesleyan.
Marshall finished a close second in last year's event in Huntington.
