HAVE YOU HERD?
Redshirt freshman guard C.J. Burks (Martinsburg, W.Va.) and junior guard Austin Loop (South Webster, Ohio) led Marshall with 12 points apiece in an 85-61 road loss at Morehead State on Tuesday evening at Johnson Arena.
Burks recorded the first points of his Herd career on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, and Loop went 4-of-9 from long range for his season high after an 11-point outing at Tennessee last week (Nov. 19). Each had one rebound and one assist.
WHAT'S ON THE LINE
- Marshall is looking for its first win of the 2015-16 campaign, after dropping its first two outings at Tennessee (Nov. 19) and Morehead State (Nov. 24).
- Friday's game will be the Herd's first at home this season. The Herd has won 11 consecutive home-openers, dating back to 2004-05. Marshall's last loss to open home play was Nov. 21, 2003: a 65-56 decision to UNC Wilmington at Cam Henderson Center.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
James Madison (3-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 106-74 defeat of Eastern Mennonite to close the Men Against Breast Cancer Classic on Tuesday at JMU Convocation Center. The Dukes were fueled by a career-high 27 points from redshirt junior forward Dimitrije Cabarkapa.
JMU is 1-0 when playing on the road this year, picking up a win at Richmond to open the regular season on Nov. 13. The Dukes will leave Harrisonburg for the first time since hosting four consecutive games over five days, from Nov. 20-24. Senior guard Ron Curry leads the Dukes with 14.2 points and 3.7 assists per game.
The Herd has met the Dukes just twice in program history. The two teams played an identical home-and-home series during the 2010-11 season, splitting the two games with each squad winning on their home court. After the first matchup, a 67-63 victory for the Herd in Huntington on Dec. 7, 2010, the teams met just two weeks later in the JMU Convocation Center on Dec. 22. The Dukes won that contest, 80-73.
DOUBLE THE HERD, DOUBLE THE FUN
Fans who purchase tickets to the Marshall women's basketball game at 4 p.m. against Cornell may stay for the men's game for free, as the arena will not be cleared. The men will tip 90 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game, approximately a 7:30 p.m. tip. After the women's game ends, there will be a Herd Happy Hour, where all concession prices will be discounted in between the contests and leading up to the men's game. This includes $1 hot dogs.
