HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall swimming and diving improved to 5-0 in head-to-head meets with a 192-103 victory over Cleveland State Friday in Cleveland.
The Herd swam for 30 season bests tonight and also had three lifetime bests on the evening.
AGAINST CLEVELAND STATE
Marshall dominated proceedings by winning 14 of the 16 total events. Junior Laura Bradley (Fredericksburg, Va.) and sophomore Emma Lockyer (Thunder Bay, Ontario), led the way for the Herd with two wins apiece. Bradley's wins were her first two at Marshall. She won the 200 yard freestyle (1:55.83) and the 100 freestyle (54.38) for season best times. Lockyer won the 200 yard breaststroke (2:26.53) and the 200 IM (2:09.61), also with season best times.
In the 1,650 freestyle, freshman Anna Lynch (Oakwood, Ohio) and sophomore Nele Albers (Ludinghausen, Germany) finished first and second, with season best times of 17:13.59 and 17:14.83, respectively. Those times also rank in the Herd's top ten times.
Other winners for the Herd include Carin Ingram (100 backstroke, 59.93), Mikaya Reynolds (100 breaststroke, 1:07.46), Shir Wasserman (200 butterfly, 2:08.97), Gloriya Mavrova (50 freestyle, 24.61), Caroline Wanner (500 freestyle, 5:07.17), Chloe Parsemain (100 butterfly, 57.68) and Megan Wolons (3-meter dive, 262.57). TRAMEL TALK
Coach Bill Tramel on the meet:
"We are very pleased with tonight. We blitzed them early and got out to a huge lead. At that point, we almost could have put it in cruise control, but instead we kept up the intensity level."
"Thirty season bests tonight tells the story. We have performed well this season, especially against Cincy and VMI. Champion teams go hard regardless of the score. That's what we are trying to foster here. There can be no let ups."
"We intentionally scheduled back-to-back to prepare for conference championships, our main goal. We have one of the fastest pools in the country again tomorrow, with 16 feet deep water. That promotes fast swimming. We need to make the most of that. I know we will."
