IRVING, Texas ââ'¬" Marshall senior long snapper Matt Cincotta was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team on Thursday, following a vote by the league's media relations directors for football.
Cincotta, from Charlotte, N.C., has served as the team's long snapper for four years and also snaps for Marshall's extra point/field goal units. He has made 562 career snaps for the Herd without a bad snap on a punt or place-kick.
He has also made four special teams tackles this year (12 in his career) as a member of the punt team and had fumble recoveries on muffed/fumbled punts this season at Ohio and Western Kentucky.
An All-Conference USA first team selection in 2014, he carries a 3.60 GPA in Biology and has plans to attend medical school with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Cincotta will graduate magna cum laude in 3½ years at the university's Winter Commencement on Dec. 12.
The Thundering Herd went 9-3 in the 2015 regular season and awaits Conference USA's bowl announcement on Sunday for MU's postseason game in as many seasons.
