Herd Looks to Keep Rolling at North Texas

DENTON, Tx. - Marshall women's basketball (14-7, 6-4) will look to continue its good Conference USA start at North Texas (2-18, 1-8) at the Super Pit when it takes on the Mean Green at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT on Saturday in Denton.

SCOUTING THE MEAN GREEN
North Texas (2-18, 1-8) is coming into Saturday's game having lost six straight after Thursday's 77-49 loss to Western Kentucky. The Mean Green is paced by Briesha Wynn's 11.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She also leads the team with 33 steals. BreAnna Dawkins has a team-high 49 assists and 33 free throw makes. Joh'Vonna Darrington has blocked a team-best 16 shots this season. Eboniey Jeter is far and away the team's leader in field goal percentage at .486 (51-105), while Candice Adams has made 20 3-pointers this season (.278 percentage).
HAVE YOU HERD?
The Herd's has been especially strong in the second half of late, outscoring or equaling the opposition's point total in each of its last four games. The last time the program had a longer streak in C-USA play was a five-game stretch between Jan. 30 and Feb. 13, 2010. Also, the Herd has made more free throws than the opposition in nine straight games, the longest streak in at least the last 15 seasons.
A HERD WIN WOULD...
Give Marshall its 15th win of the season and seventh league victory. Both totals are the best in Matt Daniel's two-plus years as head coach.
Get the program out to its best-ever start in Conference USA and best start in league play since 2004-05 (12-4 in last MAC season).
SPREADING THE WEALTH...
Four players have led Marshall in scoring through 21 games this season. They are Leah Scott, AJ Johnson, Norrisha Victrum, Chukwuka Ezeigbo and McKenzie Akers.
DEFENSIVE STANCE
The Herd is at or near the top of Conference USA in several defensive categories: field goal percentage defense (1st, .370), 3-point percentage defense (2nd, .277), scoring defense (3rd, 59.9) and defensive rebounds (3rd, 27.5).
UNDAUNTED
Marshall is the only Conference USA team yet to register a losing streak this season. The Herd is 7-0 in games following a loss.
BLOCK PARTY
The Herd's tandem of senior center Chukwuka Ezeigbo (Trenton, N.J.) and sophomore forward Chelsey Romero (Hampton, Va.) are blocking their way into the Marshall record book. Ezeigbo ranks No. 4 with 109 career blocks, and needs 10 to reach Modupe Ishola's 119 from 2003-07. Romero has 78 at No. 7.

THREE-BALLING
AJ Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) and Norrisha Victrum (Columbia, S.C.) are nearing the top of the Marshall record book in career made 3-pointers. Both rank in the top 10, with Johnson at No. 9 (90) and Victrum rounding out the group (81).
HOME SWEET HENDERSON CENTER
Since its inaugural season in 1981-82, the Herd is 276-166 (.624) at Cam Henderson Center. This season, the Herd is 7-2 in the friendly confines.
