Tennis Captures 5-2 Win over Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OHIO -- No. 70 Marshall tennis (8-4) captured a swift 5-2 win over Cincinnati (4-5) Friday, March 6 at the Western Tennis & Fitness Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Herd proved successful during the doubles point to start things off right.
After sophomore duo Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) and Derya Turhan (Bad S, Germany) dropped an 8-5 finish at the No. 1 spot, Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Maddie Silver (Grand Rapids, Mich.) picked up an 8-6 win at the No. 3 spot.
Lone senior Kai Broomfield (Toronto, Canada) and freshman Marija Bogecevic (Belgrade, Serbia) clinched the doubles point with a tiebreak win (7-7, 8-6) at the No. 2 spot.
The Herd then proceeded to dominate in singles action.
Broomfield captured a straight set win at the No. 4 spot (6-2, 6-1), followed by Pomyatinskaya on court three with a 6-2, 6-3 win. Silver made the win official with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot.
The rest of the already-decided match finished in three-set contests.
Turhan was defeated at the No. 1 spot (6-4, 3-6, 10-7), but Morales was successful in her three-set fight, winning 6-0, 5-7, 11-9 on court 6.
Bogecevic gave the Bearcats its second win on the day with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-4 win at the No. 5 spot.
Next, the Herd will take on in-state rival West Virginia in Morgantown, W. Va. Sunday, March 8 at 9 a.m.
