Tennis Falls in Final Regular Season Match

RICHMOND, Va. -- In the last match of the regular season, No. 48 Marshall tennis suffered a tough 4-3 loss to VCU (13-8) Saturday, April 11 at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Va.
The Herd finished the spring season 14-8, mirroring last season's final team results after the 2014 Conference USA Tournament.
A neck-and-neck doubles point landed in favor of the Rams to start the match.
Sophomore duo Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) and Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) took a tough 8-4 loss on court 1, finishing the season 11-11 overall.
Kai Broomfield (Toronto, Canada) and Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) rebutted with an 8-3 win on court 2, improving their season results to 9-11.
The doubles point was decided on court 3 in a tiebreaker (8-7(3)) over Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Maddie Silver (Grand Rapids, Mich.). The two finished regular season play with a team-best record of 13-8.
In her second consecutive singles face off against a nationally ranked player, Turhan was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by No. 61 Cindy Chala on court 1.
Bogicevic was also unlucky on court 5, falling in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) and putting the Rams ahead 3-0.
With the match on the line, Broomfield and Morales pulled through with two straight set wins on courts 4 and 6--Broomfield 6-4, 6-2 and Morales 6-3, 6-3.
The scored was evened to 3-3 when Pomyatinskaya captured a win for the Herd on court 3 by injury default 6-7(4), 3-2.
VCU stole its fourth and final win over Silver (6-3, 6-0) on court 2.
Next for the Herd will be the 2015 C-USA Tournament. Play is scheduled in Houston from April 15-19.
