HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Following home victories last weekend over nationally ranked DePaul and William and Mary, Marshall has moved among the top 50 teams in the weekly Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
The Herd is ranked No. 48 in the rankings revealed Tuesday, moving from outside the top 75 after a 5-2 victory over DePaul last Friday, following by a 4-2 triumph over William and Mary on Sunday.
Those two teams remain in the rankings -- DePaul at No. 33 (up from No. 38) and W&M at No. 62 (down from No. 52).
The No. 48 ranking is the highest for Coach John Mercer's program since a No. 41 ranking in mid-March of 2011.
This season, the Herd has played 10 ITA-ranked opponents. Marshall (14-7) is 4-6 in those 10 matches. The Herd's only loss to an unranked team this spring was a 4-3 decision at FIU on March 28.
The Herd finishes its 2015 regular season this week, with matches at No. 71 Old Dominion -- a Conference USA opponent -- on Friday (1 p.m.) and at VCU on Saturday (11 a.m.) The 2015 C-USA Tournament is scheduled in Houston from April 15-19.
Tournament host Rice is the top-ranked C-USA team (No. 30 in this week's ITA 75), followed by No. 48 Marshall and No. 71 ODU.
