Herd Swimming, Volleyball Earn C-USA Sport Academic Awards

IRVING, Texas - Marshall's swimming, diving and volleyball programs have earned 2014-15 Conference USA Sport Academic Awards, the league announced Friday.
The Sport Academic Award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. Seven different Rice teams recorded the highest GPA for their respective sports, while Marshall, Middle Tennessee and UAB produced two winners apiece.
The accolades are a first for the Thundering Herd since women's soccer in 2011-12. Volleyball earned its first Sport Academic Award, while the swimming and diving program has won twice previously (2006-07, 2005-06). Other MU programs to win are women's soccer (2011-12, 2010-11), women's golf (2008-09, 2007-08, 2006-07), men's soccer (2006-07), men's cross country (2006-07) and softball (2005-06).
