Huntington, W.Va. - The Big Green Scholarship Foundation and the Marshall University community would like to announce the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute.
The ceremony will be held Sunday, September 6, at noon. Tours of the new facility will take place immediately after the dedication. The MU football game versus Purdue will follow at 3:00 p.m.
The Marshall Sports Medicine Institute is referred to as "The Region's Game Changer," and features top of the line physical therapy, sports medicine and rehab equipment. The 20,000 square foot facility includes exam rooms, conference rooms, hydrotherapy pools, and weight and cardio equipment, including an AlterG anti-gravity treadmill, which uses air pressure to reduce body weight and decrease impact on an athletes joints while running.
Tom Belmaggio, former athletic trainer for Marshall University Athletics, is now the Marshall Director of Sports Medicine.
"I'm ecstatic," Belmaggio said. "There's been so much thought and planning that's gone into this thing, and now we're offering this comprehensive approach to the public. It's going to be one of those things we haven't had in this region. We're offering something that nobody's done before here, and not many people can actually say they're offering throughout the country."
The Marshall Sports Medicine Institute, the final piece of the Vision Campaign, opened July 13 of this year.
Parking will be limited. Marshall Athletics asks that you do not park in the West Lot, Softball Lot, or any other stadium lot for the ceremony, as this is all reserved for those with purchased season parking.
If you have any questions concerning the dedication ceremony, please contact the Big Green office at 304-696-4661.
