HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team earned its fourth straight win Friday, defeating the Robert Morris Colonials 3-1 in the Veterans Memorial Cup.

In the first contest of the evening, No. 24 Bowling Green defeated Evansville 3-1.

AGAINST THE COLONIALS

The Herd got started early as junior Rimario Gordon (Kingston, Jamaica) earned a penalty kick for Marshall in the 13th minute. Senior Ryan Forde (London, England) stepped home and converted the attempt to make the score 1-0 Marshall.

The Colonials were able to answer quickly with a Jake Cooper headed goal off of a free kick in the 14th minute.

In the 20th minute, Herd freshman Chris Taibi (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season. He was able to strike a ball played in off the free kick by junior Christian Kershaw (Severna Park, Md.) and slotted the ball to the near post.

The Herd's third goal came in the 30th minute when Hopkins and Forde found freshman Chris Sanchez (Scottsdale, A.Z.) who scored his first career Herd goal, finishing at the near post.

The Herd would go on to win the game, outshooting Robert Morris 19-15.

THE GRAY AREA Coach Bob Gray on the match:

"It's good that we have plenty of depth and guys that can step on and score. We had two freshmen score goals today and that's huge when you have a senior dominated team like we have."

"It's exciting. We know that we aren't playing our best soccer, but we are still winning and trying to get better each game."
