CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - Marshall tennis competed in its second day at the UVa Invitational, with sophomore Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia), junior Anne Gulsrud (Stavanger, Norway), junior Rachael Morales (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Jackie Carr (Rogers, Ark.) all earning match wins.
"It was another good day of tough matches," said Herd coach John Mercer. "The good competition should really pay off as we move forward."
The Herd's top performances came in doubles action. After winning their first match of the 'Blue Flight' yesterday, the duo of Morales/Carr came out even stronger in day two with an 8-3 victory over Virginia's Olivarez and Mercer. In the championship match of the flight, the two went on to fall 8-3 to Conference USA foe Old Dominion. Also, earning a victory in doubles was Bogicevic and Gulsrud, who claimed a 6-2 win over George Washington's Kussainova and Kogan.
Earning wins in singles play was Bogicevic and Gulsrud in the 'White Flight'. Bogicevic was paired up against Old Dominion's Novakovic in the fifth place bracket. The sophomore won in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6. Also, in the fifth place bracket was Gulsrud, who faced Kogan from GW. Just like her teammate, Gulsrud would win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Marshall will finish the UVa Invitational on Sunday.
