A WIN WOULDââ'¬Â¦
- Give Marshall its most wins in a season since going 13-19 in 2012-13, and its most Conference USA wins since going 9-7 in 2011-12
- Give Marshall its best nine-game start to conference play since going 8-1 to start the 1987-88 Southern Conference season under Rick Huckabay. The Herd was the regular-season SoCon Champion that year and played in the NIT.
- Continue the Herd's longest home win streak in conference play since winning 12 in a row over three years (1996-98) in the Southern Conference
- Give the Herd its longest home win streak since winning 15 from Feb. 7, 2009 to Feb. 27, 2010
BROWNING AT HIS BEST
Since the Herd's game against Grand Canyon in Las Vegas (Dec. 22), junior guard Stevie Browning (Logan, W.Va.) has contributed at least 10 points in every contest. He is riding a 10-game streak in double-figure scoring, contributing 15.3 points per game on 53.3 percent shooting (64-of-120) over those games.
"WHAT ARE THOSE?!"
Take notice of the Herd's footwear: the coaching staff will wear sneakers to bring awareness to the Coaches vs. Cancer foundation, and the players will wear mismatched shoes for pediatric cancer awareness.
SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
Last time out, UAB (17-4, 7-1) had its nation-leading win streak of 14 games snapped at the hands of WKU at Diddle Arena on Thursday, 69-62. The defending C-USA champion is led by a trio of double-figure scorers in Chris Cokley (13.8 ppg), Robert Brown (13.0 ppg) and William Lee (10.1 ppg). Cokley is the team's top rebounder with 6.5 per game and Nick Norton is No. 2 in C-USA with 5.55 assists per outing. UAB is the most efficient shooting team in the league, with 48.3 percent success on the season. The Blazers also lead C-USA in blocked shots (6.62 per game) and assists (18.95 per game).
UAB leads the all-time series, 15-6, claiming the last five meetings between the programs. Marshall is looking for its first win against the Blazers since Jan. 11, 2012, in Birmingham. The Herd has not defeated UAB in Huntington since Jan. 19, 2008.
