@Herd_Tennis Heads to ITA Atlantic Regional

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's tennis team plays its third tournament of the fall season this weekend, taking part in the ITA Atlantic Regional beginning Friday.

The tournament, which will consist of teams from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. will be hosted by Old Dominion University and takes place from Oct. 14-18. The regional will consist of a 64-player singles bracket and a 48-team doubles bracket.

Senior Derya Turhan will compete in the tournament as one of the eight ranked singles seeds for the event. Also competing for the Herd in the main singles draw will be senior Rachael Morales and junior Stephanie Smith. Smith and Morales will be paired together for the doubles portion of the tournament and Turhan will team up with Anna Pomyatinskaya to form one of the sixteen doubles seeds in the event. Pomyatinskaya and Maddie Silver will begin singles play Friday in the qualifier draw. Both Pomyatinskaya and Silver are top-eight seeds in the bracket.

Qualifier singles matches begin at 9 a.m. Friday. Main draw singles matches begin Saturday at 1 p.m. All doubles matches Friday will take place starting at 3 p.m. Turhan and Pomyatinskaya have a bye into the second round of the doubles tournament. Smith and Morales will take on the Penn State duo of Zuhse and Dunn.
