Co-Sida All-District Release

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's soccer seniors Trevor Starcher and Tommy Trupo were named to the 2016 Academic All-District II team the College Sports Information Directors of America [CoSIDA] announced. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

It was the first such honor for both players. It is also the first CoSIDA All-District team honor for the Herdmen since Karim Boukhemis (2003-06) in 2006.

"We are thrilled that both Trevor and Tommy have been selected to the CoSIDA Academic District II team," head coach Bob Gray said. "Both these young men are local boys who epitomize the quote that hard work will help you accomplish anything you want. I know that both these young men will go on to have terrific careers in whatever they pursue.

"From the first day they stepped on campus they have been nothing but a pleasure to work with. I know both their families very well and most of the credit goes to their parents for setting standards to success. I have always thought that they were like an extended part of my family and needless to say I'm extremely proud of both of them."

Starcher, a redshirt senior, has started all 16 games this season for Marshall and has been a leader on and off the field. The Hurricane, W.Va., native carries a 3.90 overall grade point average with a double major in management and marketing as well a minor in entrepreneurship. He is a four-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a four-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal for a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

Starcher leads the team in points with 10 and is tied for the team lead in both goals (three) and assists (four). He knocked in the game-winner with just three minutes and three seconds left of regulation to defeat Florida Atlantic (Sept. 25) and assisted on both goals in Marshall's 2-2 draw at New Mexico (Oct. 22).

Trupo has started every game in his senior season and has logged over 1,300 minutes played. The Scott Depot, W.Va., native has been a major contributor while keeping a 3.61 grade point average as a biology pre-med major with a double minor in chemistry and psychology. Trupo is a two-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the C-USA Academic Medal in 2015. He has eight shots this season with two on goal.

Marshall has two games remaining in the regular season at No. 18 Kentucky (Oct. 30) and at home against No. 12 Charlotte. The Herd is fighting for a spot in the Conference USA Tournament that will be hosted Nov. 9-13 in Huntington, W.Va., at Hoops Family Field.
