HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall starts competition Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the four-day 2016 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta. The meet will be held at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center, site of the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Marshall faces five other Conference USA women's swimming schools -- FIU, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Old Dominion and Rice. The top three finishers in each event are considered all-conference. The first-and second-place teams will receive trophies and the first-place team will receive individual awards.
Preliminaries start each day at 10 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m. On Wednesday, there will only be an evening session.
Swimmer of the Meet, Diver of the Meet and Coach of the Year will be selected by the coaches following the championship. Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, Freshman Swimmer of the Year, Freshman Diver of the Year and Newcomer of the Year will be selected by the coaches following the NCAA Championship. In addition, an All-Academic Team will also be selected.
Last season, Marshall placed fourth, its highest finish at the Championships. Two Marshall athletes made the podium as well (junior Megan Wolons in platform diving and three meter and sophomore Nele Albers in the 400 IM.)
"We are really looking forward to diving and swimming our best of the season," Marshall coach Bill Tramel said. "I think we've worked harder than we ever have here at Marshall. If we are fortunate enough, we hope to improve on our fourth place finish from last year, which was the best in the program's history."
A full recap will be available following each day's events. Live video and a schedule is available from the Conference USA Championship Central page.
