Swimming and Diving Day Four Prelims Recap

ATLANTA - The Marshall swimming and diving team wrapped up the day four preliminaries and one final event Saturday at the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships at McAuley Aquatics Center.
Freshman Shir Wasserman placed second in the 200-yard butterfly, with a time of 2:02.23. In all, the Herd had three other performers in the top ten, including junior Chloe Parsemain (fourth, 2:02.72), freshman Madeline Schaffer (sixth, 2:03.05) and freshman Caroline Wanner (eighth, 2:04.10). Freshman Brittany Wilkerson qualified 17th, with a time of 2:07.53.
Sophomore Gloriya Mavrova swam a preliminary time of 51.04 in the 100-yard freestyle, good for fifth place in the event. Other Herd performers advanced to the "B" final, including freshman Maggie Stovall (10, 51.66) and sophomore Lauren Cowher (12, 51.86).
Sophomore Emma Lockyer qualified 12th in the 200 breaststroke, with a time of 2:21.84. Junior Mikaya Reynolds was 16th, with a time of 2:24.19 and senior Alex Black came in at 21st, with a time of 2:34.70.
Schaffer was the top Herd swimmer in the 200 backstroke, clocking a time of 2:04.53 for 16th, while junior Bree Mury placed 21st, with a time of 2:08.04.
"We had a very good morning," Marshall coach Bill Tramel said. "We really couldn't ask for much more.
"The highlight is four up in the 200 Fly. All of them can swim smarter races tonight and go faster.
"We have two of our strongest and deepest events this afternoon. Platform diving and the mile.
"I'm not sure we can catch Rice, but we are going to focus on what we can control, which is how we perform, and see where it takes us. We've had a very good meet so we want to finish strong. "
