HAVE YOU HERD?
Senior forward James Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich.) posted his fourth game of 30 points or more as Marshall fell to UAB, 81-78, at Cam Henderson Center on Saturday afternoon. Kelly had 30 points and 10 rebounds, good for his league-leading 11th double-double of the year. Ryan Taylor (Indianapolis) was the Herd's only other double-figure scorer, with 19 points.
DOUBLE-DIGITS FROM DOWNTOWN
The Herd is one of 30 Division I men's basketball teams with at least 10 games scoring 10 or more threes this season. Marshall is tied for 17th with 11 games of 10 or more triples. North Florida leads the nation with 21 games.
TEXAS TIDBITS
Marshall has beaten its last five opponents from the Lone Star State, and is 3-0 in its last three regular-season games played in Texas. The Herd's last regular-season loss in Texas was at UTEP, 66-56, on Jan. 11, 2014.
A WIN WOULDââ'¬Â¦
- Give Marshall its best 10-game start to league play since going 8-2 in the 1996-97 Southern Conference under Greg White
- Mark the first time the Herd won consecutive games against the Miners
- Be Marshall's first against UTEP in El Paso (0-5)
- Give the Herd its most wins in a season (12) since going 13-19 in 2012-13, and its most Conference USA wins (8) since going 9-7 in 2011-12
- Give Marshall its fourth road win, most in a single season since going 5-8 away from Huntington in 2011-12
SCOUTING THE MINERS
UTEP (11-11, 3-6) is looking to snap a three-game skid when the Herd visits El Paso on Thursday. The Miners have dropped six of their last seven games, five being on the road. UTEP is 9-4 at home this season, and 3-1 in C-USA home games. Five Miners average double-figure scoring, led by Lee Moore (13.8 ppg).
UTEP leads the series, 9-3, but the teams have split the last four games, 2-2. The Herd will look for its first win against the Miners when playing in El Paso, coming in at 0-5 all-time. Although the Herd won last year's meeting in Huntington, 78-71, Marshall has never won consecutive games against UTEP.
