Herd Divers to Compete at NCAA Zone A Championships

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Junior divers Heather Lonkert, Kelly Toner and Megan Wolons are set to compete for Marshall in the 2016 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The three-day meet starts Monday at Lejeune Hall.
Competition for the meet begins Monday at noon, with the women's 1-meter event. Tuesday's women's event is the 3-meter event, which starts at noon. On Wednesday, the women and men both compete in the platform dive, starting at 11 a.m.
For the 1- and 3-meter dives, there will be six dives for all competitors, with the top 18 advancing to the finals for a total of six dives. The platform event features 12 dives for each entrant.
In the women's division, five divers in the 1-meter and six from the 3-meter and platform divisions will advance to the NCAA Diving Championships.
Lonkert first qualified for the event with a score of 266.55 in 1-meter competition against Davidson and Old Dominion back on Oct. 31, 2015 in Charlotte. Wolons earned her qualification one day before Toner, with a score of 304.85 in the 3-meter dive against Davidson and Old Dominion. Toner qualified in Marshall's final regular-season meet, the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, with a score of 291.37.
Marshall's divers excelled last week at the Conference USA Championships in Atlanta. Wolons won gold in the 3-meter (316.70), silver in the platform (242.35) and fourth in 1-meter (237.70). Lonkert tied with Wolons for fourth in the 1-meter and also placed fourth in the 3-meter (265.05). Toner placed seventh in 1-meter (234.30) and ninth in platform and 3-meter diving.
Per the Naval Academy, everyone over age 1 must have and display a valid picture ID card (i.e.: State issued driver's license, student ID, or a government issued passport). Visitors under age 18 without a valid ID must be escorted by an adult. Meet visitors from Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico and Washington State must present a driver's license and secondary ID for admittance.
