Huntington, W. Va. -- The Big Green Scholarship Foundation announces its 2016 Membership Drive, Operation 3300.

The primary purpose of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation is to support the more than 350 student-athletes at Marshall by raising the funds necessary to provide athletic scholarships. In 2015, while there was an increase in revenue through Big Green donations, the Big Green Annual Fund membership totaled just over 2,900.

The purpose of this drive is to increase membership totals to 3,300 in 2016, marking what would be a record year for Big Green membership.

"Our primary focus is on scholarships," said Mike Hamrick, Marshall University Director of Athletics. "The most important thing we do is provide these young men and women with an opportunity to earn a college degree. Times are tough economically, but our Marshall family resilient, and we need every Herd fan to be a Big Green member."

On May 1st, the Big Green Board of Trustees, Big Green Regional Chapters, and other Big Green members began a two month long contest, trying to raise as many members as possible. There are six teams, and each Chapter will use their 2016 Coaches Tour events to recruit new members in places like Cincinnati, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Logan County. Team Captains
Team Pennington - Joe Feaganes / Red Dawson
Team Moss - Scott Ellis
Team Curry - Jill Francisco / Doug Riley
Team Slack - Dr. Maggie Adams
Team Greer - Michael Misiti / Jeff McDowell
Team D'Antoni - Brad Bobersky

Another factor in increasing membership is the Big Green Referral Program. The Big Green Referral Program gives Big Green supporters an avenue to encourage new donors to join the Big Green and support Marshall student-athletes. One incentive for current members in this program is the opportunity to earn Big Green Priority Points. Priority Points affect all Big Green seating and parking assignments, away game tickets, and post-season tickets are allocated in Priority Point order. "You have to think about the product you're selling, and for us that is these kids," said John Sutherland, Executive Director of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation. "Our student-athletes are phenomenal. For all that is asked of them they deserve our support, and joining the Big Green for as little as $60.00 a year is the best way Herd fans can do that. They will leave Marshall with a degree - sometimes multiple degrees - and make a difference in the world."

The Big Green will announce its 2016 membership totals at its annual Paint the Capital City Green in Charleston on August 25.
