HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Angelica di Marzio, an Italian freestyler, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marshall University swimming and diving team, the program announced Thursday.

Di Marzio, originally from Povoletto, Italy, is currently a student at the International Bilingual of Aix en Provence in France. She swims for the Circle de Nageurs, located in Marseille. She recently competed at the French National Championships, finishing with a time of 2:06.53 LCM.

"We are excited about Angelica joining us this fall," Marshall coach Bill Tramel said. "She is perhaps the fastest 200 freestyler we have ever signed at Marshall, so with our improvement curve, we expect she will only get faster."ââ'¬â€¹

"I'm so thankful for this chance," di Marzio said. "I made my decision based on the major that I want to pursue, as well as after speaking several times with coach Tramel. He made me feel welcomed and already a part of the team. I feel like I can improve a lot with coach Tramel guiding me. I can't wait to swim for Marshall next year. Go Herd!"

Di Marzio is the fifth member of the Marshall swimming and diving Class of 2020.
