Historic Herd Treated to Electrifying WKU Win

Huntington, WV – Marshall Basketball put on a show for those in attendance last Saturday with a 94-80 win over conference foe Western Kentucky. Six members of the crowd held a special place in Marshall History. Randy Noll, Gary Orsini, Barry Driscoll, Jerry Strittholt, Greg Imperi and John Sark all returned to the hardwood for a reunion celebration.
The six members of the 1971-72 Marshall Men’s Basketball team that made the NCAA tournament enjoyed a weekend full of festivities that concluded with a halftime ceremony in their honor. The players in attendance also enjoyed a video message courtesy of former teammate and Thundering Herd Hall of Famer Mike D’Antoni.
D’Antoni said in the message to his teammates,
“71 and 72 and all my years at Marshall were special but that team was really special. We set the tone for modern basketball.”
Noll is also a Herd Hall of Famer after being inducted in the class of 1989. He had high praise for the reunion and Marshall Basketball as a whole,
“It is a lot of fun to come back and see all of these guys, and it is fun to come back and see where this program has come. It really is first class.”
Big Green will continue to make it a mission to recognize the achievements of current and former Thundering Herd athletes alike.
