HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall moved to 3-0 in league play when it defeated the Old Dominion Monarchs in a 90-86 overtime thriller. The Herd came back from a 14-0 deficit to win the game. It was the first time this season where Marshall did not score in the first eight minutes of play. It was the first time all season Old Dominion gave up at least 70 points and the first time in 179 games since the Monarchs gave up 90 points (at Richmond, Dec. 20, 2011, a 90-82 loss in OT). Old Dominion was one of two teams (Arizona) in Division I that had not given up at least 70 points in a contest going into Thursday's game. The Herd has now scored at least 70 points in 36 consecutive games. Ryan Taylor collected his 32nd career double-double from 21 points and 13 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte plays a similar style of basketball as Marshall, as they rank among the top in several offensive categories in C-USA. They are No. 3 in scoring offense (78.1 points per game), No. 2 in free throw percentage (75.4 percent) and No. 2 in 3-point field goals percentage (39.6 percent). The 49ers are one of the top teams when it comes to creating turnovers. Its 7.5 steals per game leads the conference and is No. 61 in the nation. Its +3.6 turnover margin is good for second in the league, while it is the 33rd-best in the country. It has forced opponents to make 230 turnovers overall and 16.4 per game.

WHO TO KNOW
The 49ers are led by Jon Davis, who only trails Jon Elmore in scoring among C-USA players. His 19.6 points per game is good for No. 2 in the league. Andrien White makes 1.8 steals per game, which is No. 3 in C-USA. Anthony Vanhook is Charlotte's primary big man and the anchor in the paint. He leads the team with 5.8 boards (No. 16 in the league) and is the 49ers number two in steals with 1.2 per game. His 83.7 free throw percentage is No. 5 in C-USA, while his 3.2 assists are No. 2 on the team and the 11th-best in the conference. Vanhook also does not turn the ball over much, as his 2.3 assist/turnover ratio is one of the best in C-USA (No. 3).

SERIES HISTORY
Marshall will meet Charlotte for the 13th contest in series history. It is a series that dates back to the 1971-72 season. James Kelly's 20-20 game last year was the first time a Marshall player accomplished that feat in 43 years

LAST TIME
Herd senior James Kelly turned in a game for the ages, in what was his 12th double-double of the season ... by halftime. When the 6-foot-8 senior left the floor with 3:34 to play, he'd finished with 27 points and 23 rebounds as Marshall rolled to an 87-72 Conference USA victory over Charlotte.

The Miami (Fla.) transfer posted the first 20-20 game for a Marshall player in 43 years.

The last of those came by 6-8 Randy Noll, at Veterans Memorial Field House on Jan. 6, 1973. Noll, a senior that season, had 25 points and 20 rebounds in an 83-72 triumph over Eastern Kentucky. The previous season, Noll had a 33-point, 21-rebound game in a Marshall Memorial Invitational title win over No. 8 St. John's on Dec. 18, 1971.
