MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Marshall Swimming and Diving completed its first session at the West Virginia games Friday evening in Morgantown. The Thundering Herd currently trails West Virginia 472.5 to 353.5 in the seven-team competition.
Caroline Wanner highlighted Marshall's swimming results with a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.14. Anna Lynch finished just behind for third in 5:06.31.
Catherine Bendziewicz was runner-up in the 200 IM in 2:06.02. Emma Lockyer and Wanner followed with the third and fourth place spots in 2:09.40 and 2:10.37, respectively.
Senior Lauren Cowher tied for third in the 50 Free in 24.49 and Maddie Young led the Marshall divers with a fifth-place finish on 3-Meter.
"We talked about focusing on being better than we were at this meet a year ago," said Marshall head coach Bill Tramel. "The swimmers who accomplished that tonight were the ones who finished highest. This was our first competition, so there is going to be a little rust, but we also didn't see some technical focus that could have helped our performances. We'll talk about that in our meeting and try to be better tomorrow. Overall, we were just ok today ââ'¬Â¦ nothing fantastic, but nothing awful either. We did see a lot of fight tonight and that's a positive sign."
