HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Logan Fraley recorded the first double-double of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds as host Marshall slammed Longwood 90-45 Friday evening in a wire-to-wire win in the Cam Henderson Center. The 10 rebounds were also a career-high for the Ashland, Kentucky product.
The game was the season-opener for both schools.
Shayna Gore led all scorers with 22 points and Talequia Hamilton added 20 in that many minutes of action. Ashley Saintigene had a big night off the bench, finishing with 11 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks (both career-highs) in just 23 minutes. Asheika Alexander had a career-high six assists as well.
The Lancers were led by nine points apiece from Kristina Antonenko, Micaela Ellis and Que King. Casey Ripp had six boards, while Ellis had four assists and Stephanie Guihon added three steals.
Marshall held a monster 65-42 team edge on the glass and a 36-20 margin on points in the paint.
"It's a good win, a good way to start the year," said first-year Marshall head coach Tony Kemper after the first head coaching win of his career. "I told our team right before we hit the floor that they were ready, that they just needed to calm down and do what they've practiced. I thought, for the most part, they did a really good job of that. I thought we competed pretty consistently across the board and I liked that a lot. A lot of different people contributed and I hope that becomes consistent with how we do things."
The Thundering Herd will be back in action Wednesday when Penn State visits Huntington for a 6 p.m. tip.
