Thundering Herd Advance Eight to Day Two Finals

KNOXVILLE, TN. - Marshall Swimming & Diving had its best session yet Friday morning at the Tennessee Invitational.
Eight student-athletes advanced through the preliminary competition and will compete this evening.
Emma Lockyer reset her lifetime-best again with a 4:18.60 in the 400 IM and will be the Thundering Herd's highest qualifier at seventh. Also swimming the 400 IM tonight is Maddie Schaffer, qualifying 20th with a season-best 4:28.06, and Oda Gjerde at 24th in 4:30.87.
Marshall will have two swimmers in the 200 Freestyle tonight. Darby Coles qualified 22nd with a career best 1:52.47 and Angelica di Marzio was 24th in 1:52.62.
Catherine Bendziewicz became only the second Marshall Breaststroker to dip below 1:03 when she qualified 14th in 1:02.95.
Jordyn O'Dell will represent Marshall in the 100 Backstroke, advancing with a season-best 55.94.
In 3-Meter Diving, Maddie Young qualified 12th and will compete tonight with a preliminary score of 204.55.
"This was our best morning," said Marshall head coach Bill Tramel. "We knew we were going to get better moving through this meet. We had eight more lifetime bests this morning. It is very exciting to be swimming against great competition and holding our own. We have posted 28 season-best times. We have a lot of people, not only performing great, but also having breakthroughs in understanding various facets of what we're teaching. We are really looking forward to tonight, having both swimmers and divers competing in finals."
