INDIANAPOLIS - Marshall swimmer Sirena Rowe completed her first NCAA Championships with a 52nd place finish in 100 freestyle at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships inside the IU Natatorium.

Rowe's time of 50.10 improved on her 61st place qualifying time. She completes her freshman season as the new school-record holder in three individual events and also a part of four school record relays.

"She was on today," head coach Bill Tramel said. "We talked about getting out faster than she did in the 100 back, and Sirena took out the first 50 faster than she was at C-USA. She carried it well through the 3-4 wall but had one little slip on the last breakout and that was really the difference in a best time and school record.

But what a celebration this weekend has been. Not only for Sirena, but for everyone who has ever been associated with our program and the entire Herd Nation. It's special to compete against the best in the NCAA and the world. Only the top five percent of all NCAA swimmers compete at the championship. Sirena represented Marshall well. She has also gained valuable experience. It is so important to get here as a freshman, so next year the athlete understands what it's all about and can have a better performance. We're looking forward to her career progressing."
