HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Game. On. The Big Green Scholarship Foundation enjoyed a record-setting year, but there is more to accomplish now and in the future. That is why the Big Green, the fundraising arm of Marshall University athletics, unveiled its Ambassador Program on the weekend of the football team’s spring scrimmage.
“Our ambassadors are vital to our success in the Big Green,” said executive director John Sutherland. “They helped us reach a record number of members in 2016 and reached out to Herd fans we never could have made personal contact with otherwise. They come from different states as well as throughout West Virginia, and we are proud of how they represent Marshall athletics.”
Ambassadors are Herd fans willing to solicit new members and represent Marshall in a positive way. They will be asked to be a Big Green member, contact prospective donors, contact donors previously solicited who may be able to increase their level of giving, refer prospective major gift donors to Big Green staff, assist the Big Green in maintaining and updating donor records, and abide by Marshall University, Conference USA and NCAA guidelines.
In short, ambassadors are trying to accomplish three goals: retention of current members, increased giving from all members and the recruitment of new members. That will help the Big Green build on its record-breaking 3,384 members through the end of 2016, and add to the more than $2 million raised for student-athlete scholarships and support for all 16 Thundering Herd sports.
“This is a wonderful and positive initiative created by the Big Green,” said Mike Hamrick, Marshall’s Director of Athletics. “We were thrilled to welcome a record-breaking year in Big Green members and our fundraising continues to improve. Our athletic department’s continued success thrives on each and every Big Green member and these great ambassadors of Marshall athletics.”
The Big Green Ambassador Membership Drive ends June 29. Ambassadors can compete against one another and receive an invitation to exclusive events, priority points for signups, on-field recognition and exclusive apparel.
