NORFOLK, Va. - Ashley Jackson tallied 20 points and a game-high nine rebounds to lead four players in double figures as host Old Dominion beat visiting Marshall 69-53 Thursday evening in the Ted Constant Center.

The Monarchs improved to 3-16 overall and 1-4 in Conference USA, while the Thundering Herd dropped to 6-11 and 0-4 in the league.

Odegua Oigbokie (6-10 shooting) posted 16 points, while Taylor Edwards added 14 and Victoria Morris notched 12. Jackson, Morris and MaKayla Timmons combined for 12 of the Monarchs' 14 assists against just eight turnovers.

Marshall received a combined 33 points from Shayna Gore (18) and Talequia Hamilton (15). Kate Zhibareva led the team with seven rebounds for the second-straight game and Kristen Mayo and Mychelle Johnson added four assists apiece.

The Thundering Herd won the first and fourth quarters by a combined score of 35-28 but lost the middle two stanzas, 41-23.

Old Dominion held significant edges in points in the paints (26-14) and points off turnovers (12-3).

The Monarchs, who came into the game shooting just 61 percent from the free throw line, missed just one Thursday (15-16, 93.8%).

The home team also won the rebounding battle (38-26) and led by as many as 25 (58-33) late in the third quarter.

Gore, who is already the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers made (169), now was 1,183 points, good enough for 11th on the school's all-time scoring list, eight behind Cindy McCauley's total from 1994-98.

Hamilton blocked one shot and now has 120, moving ahead of Modupe Ishola (2003-07) and Chelsey Romero (2013-16) for third all-time at Marshall.

"I told our team (in the locker room) that, until we accept the challenge to truly defend, we won't get to where we want to be," said Marshall head coach Tony Kemper. "We have the ability to defend, but we have to want to."

The Thundering Herd will be back in action Sunday when Western Kentucky (13-5, 4-1) comes to the Henderson Center. Tip time is 1 p.m.
