Victoria Walter fell in the round of 32

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Marshall tennis had its run in the ITA Atlantic Regional stopped Sunday at Liberty University. All Herd players have been eliminated from singles and doubles regional championship contention.

Marshall's last remaining singles entrant, Victoria Walter, was defeated by the top seed in the bracket, Virginia Tech's Natalie Novotna, 6-2, 6-1, in the second round of the singles bracket.

"Victoria had an excellent tournament," head coach John Mercer said. "Even in a losing effort today, she played a very competitive match against a very good player. It's great to see her improve with every match she plays."

Two Marshall players were scheduled to compete in singles consolation matchups but have been pulled from the bracket. Weather impacted the start of Sunday's play and with all Herd players eliminated from the main draw, Anna Smith and Liz Stefancic were pulled from the backdraw.

Marshall does not compete for the next two weeks before returning to tournament play at the CofC Classic Nov. 2 in Charleston, South Carolina.
