Redshirt senior shot over 50 percent from the field and over 60 percent from three during the week
IRVING, Texas – Marshall women's basketball redshirt senior guard Taylor Porter was named Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
"Really happy for Taylor and our team," Herd head coach Tony Kemper said. "She has come on strong on the last couple weeks, but I believe this is more of an indication of this team playing better basketball. We have shared the ball well and Taylor has started to really make shots."
Porter had a great week for the Herd hustling all over the court. During the two games, she combined for 38 points while shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field, 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from three and was perfect (3-for-3) from the line.
At Wisconsin, Porter tied for a team-high with 16 points while also tying a career-best with eight rebounds. The Louisa, Ky., native hit 50 percent from the floor and was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in the loss.
Back at home against Cleveland State, Porter scored a season-high 22 points, set a career-high with six made three-pointers and tied another career-high with five assists. Her six three-pointers tied for the third most in a single game in program history. She also nabbed three steals and had zero turnovers in the win. The starting guard trio of Porter, Shayna Gore and Kristen Mayo combined for 19 assists and just one turnover.
