Duo earns academic recognition

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University swimmers Catherine Bendziewicz and Jordyn O'Dell have been named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team.

The honor is bestowed nationally to those swimmers and divers who have earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher while also exceeding NCAA qualifying standards.

Bendziewicz won the 200 Individual Medley for the second time at the C-USA Championships, where she was also part of the school's best 800 Freestyle relay and the Thundering Herd's second-fastest 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay during the meet. She also set the school record in the 200 Freestyle and her 100 Freestyle mark was Marshall's third-fastest time.

O'Dell was also on that 800 Freestyle Relay and set lifetime bests in the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Butterfly as well. Her 100 Back time was good for a C-USA bronze and third on Marshall's all-time list. She also swam the leadoff leg of the program's fourth-fastest 400 Medley Relay.

Last month, Marshall's entire swimming and diving program was named to the Scholar All-America team for the third consecutive season by the CSCAA for boasting a team GPA in excess of 3.0.
