Bendziewicz, Weiss Named 2017-18 Student-Athletes of the Year

Swimmer, golfer honored
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – As the 2018-19 school year is set to begin, Marshall Athletics closed the books on 2017-18 by naming Catherine Bendziewicz (swimming and diving) and Alex Weiss (men's golf) its Student-Athletes of the Year.
Bendziewicz, who was a Scholar All-American (College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America) last season, won the 200 Individual Medley for the second time at the C-USA Championships. At that meet, she was also part of the school's best 800 Freestyle relay and the Thundering Herd's second-fastest 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay. She also set the school record in the 200 Freestyle and her 100 Freestyle mark was Marshall's third-fastest time.
Weiss, who was also named an All-American Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America, became the first Thundering Herd golfer in five years to earn a spot in the NCAA Regionals by virtue of his program-record 71.24 stroke average. He concluded his career with a stroke average of 73.21 through 121 total rounds. Last year, he was named to the Conference USA All-Conference second team and was a two-time C-USA Golfer of the Week. Off the course, the Pickerington, Ohio, native was a two-time member of league's All-Academic team as well.
The duo will be honored for their accomplishments at a Marshall football game this fall.
