Guard comes to the Herd from Tampa, Fla.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's basketball head coach Tony Kemper announced the signing of Cairah "CC" Mays on Wednesday. Mays comes to the Herd from Tampa, Fla., and will be a freshman in the 2020-21 season.
"CC is a tough, fiery guard that loves to compete," coach Kemper said. "She is going to be a great asset on both sides of the ball throughout her Marshall career. She plays the game in an aggressive manner that is fun to watch."
Mays began her high school career playing for Carrollwood Day School and was named to the All-County First Team as a freshman and was nominated for the Tampa Bay Times HomeTeam Hot Shot. While playing for Carrollwood, Mays ripped off the school's first-ever quadruple-double with 10 points, 14 assists, 11 rebounds and 12 steals in a win over Middleton. Her team was state runner-up after losing to Florida A&M University Development Research School.
As a sophomore at Carrollwood, Mays was named to the All-County Second Team and was listed in the Tampa Bay Times HomeTeam 25 girl's basketball players to watch. She helped lead the Patriots to another state championship appearance and the runner-up after falling to Miami Country Day.
Mays transferred to Seffner Christian Academy for her junior year and unfortunately missed out on most of the season due to injury. She looks to bounce back for her senior season and help Seffner into the postseason as the squad lost in the regional finals this past year.
