HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's tennis team closes its two-match homestand Sunday when it takes on its fourth Power Five conference opponent of the season, the Penn State Nittany Lions, at 11 a.m.
 
HAVE YOU HERD?
Sunday's match could potentially be the Thundering Herd's last indoor match of the season. Marshall does not return to action following its contest with Penn State until a Mar. 1 match at FIU. The Thundering Herd's remaining three home matches are all currently scheduled to be played outdoors.
 
This match marks Marshall's eighth in a span of 22 days. The Thundering Herd does not play for nearly two weeks after this match.
 
Head coach John Mercer currently sits two wins shy of reaching 250 for his career. Mercer is the all-time wins leader at Marshall with 248 through his 16-plus seasons.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: PENN STATE
Penn State's season has started off on the right track, as the Nittany Lions have won five of their first six matches.
 
Before the Nittany Lions square off against the Thundering Herd, Penn State will play Furman Saturday afternoon in a neutral-site match in Huntington.
 
Penn State lost its only conference match to date, falling to Rutgers in a 4-3 decision.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This is the 18th all-time meeting between Marshall and Penn State, with the Thundering Herd winning 10 of the first 17 matchups.
 
Penn State won the last contested match between the teams in 2018, 5-2, though Marshall won the last match played in Huntington in 2017, 4-0.
 
UP NEXT
The Thundering Herd does not return to action for nearly two weeks. Marshall's next two matches are on Mar. 1-2 against FIU and North Texas, with both matches slated to be played at the FIU Tennis Courts in Miami.
