Matthews to Join Marshall Women’s Basketball

Ole Miss transfer headed to Huntington
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall head coach Tony Kemper has announced that Mahogany Matthews will join the Thundering Herd's women's basketball program in the fall.
The 6'1" forward from Raeford, N.C. will sit out the 2019-20 season as her year in residency and then have three years of eligibility at Marshall.
Matthews appeared in 22 games as a true freshman for Ole Miss, starting six, including the team's Southeastern Conference Tournament game against Florida. In that game, she had season-highs in points (four) and rebounds (six) in 21 minutes.
"We are excited to add Mahogany to our basketball program," said Kemper. "Her versatility, athleticism and length will be important additions to our growing program for years to come. She played some quality minutes as a freshman in the SEC and competed against some of the best players in the country. That experience should carry her forward as she continues to develop her game."
Matthews was a three-star recruit by ESPN out of Hoke County High School and the 45th-best forward nationally. As a senior, she averaged 18.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, 7.0 blocks, 3.8 steals and 1.4 assists per game.
